Juneteenth Baby

It's June and what a fabulous month it is.
Not only does this month mark the start of summer- but it's birthday time!!!!!!!!
Yes not just one- but two birthdays.
My birthday is the 19th and my sister's is the 20th. I know its crazy that we're so close- but actually we are one year and one day apart.

Just a little WIKI for ya:
Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, is a holiday in the United States honoring African American heritage by commemorating the announcement of the abolition of slavery in the U.S. State of Texas in 1865. Celebrated on June 19, the term is a portmanteau of June and nineteenth, and is recognized as a state holiday in 37 states of the United States.

Super cool birthday I must say.  Our sign is Gemini (the twins) and we are like just twins only not.

po·ta·to + mus·tard + spin·ach = de·li·cious

po·ta·to

noun, often attributive
\pə-ˈtā-(ˌ)tō, -tə, dialect pə-ˈdā-, bə-\
plural po·ta·toes

1

2
a : an erect South American herb (Solanum tuberosum) of the nightshade family widely cultivated for its edible starchy tuber b : the tuber of a potato —called also Irish potato, spud, white potato

I have to say I really like this veggie. It's very versital and happens to go with just about any meal and it's even a meal in itself.
Most recently I created a new potato dish using red skined potatos and whole grain mustard.

I started with olive oil in my cast iron.
When hot I added my chopped potatos, salt and pepper.
After they start to brown a little and look "crispy" add whloe grain mustard.
I like this brand best, but any whole grain will work.

I also add classic Frenches Yellow mustard, thyme, apple cyder vinigar and a pat of butter.
Once all has cooked in the skillet together and the potatos are cooked to a desirable texture add two hand fulls of fresh baby spinach. Allow the spinach to cook just until it looks soft and a wet dark green in color. remove from heat and serve.

I had this dish with cous cous (more on the pasta side). Super deliciuos.

Can I Have A Hug?

This morning at HPC we had a visitor. A gentleman of a somewhat homeless nature, bolted right through the front door- large wal-mart sack of clothes in hand and headed straight for the coffee pot in the parlor.

Alerted- my guardian CUG followed the guy around the parlor until he got his coffee. Passing back through the front desk area he spoke aloud, "I need a job" then "Oh you have postcards?! Can I have a postcard?" I responded very quickly that we had just recently run out and more were ordered.

Turning to leave he suddenly whipped around and asked, "Can I have a hug?"
Without thinking in a shruggish voice I said, "uh no..."
He turned to leave again saying, "Oh, I'm an ugly guy anyway."

Sounds crazy but it's true, and to top it off I ended up with this lovely baseball card from the Colorado Rockies featuring number 17, Todd Helton.

Who would have thought that so much excitement can come from polishing apples!

Life. Simply Put

There are many things to be talked about. Life, kitties, jobs, people, loving, hating, cooking, cold weather, knitting, conversations, indulging, coffee, chocolate, making and keeping friends, recipes, clothing, drinks, dresses, heels, pearls, dreams, scents, getting crafty, collages. There are many more things that make up my daily regime but this just spotlights some of my faves. I hope to keep things interesting, but as many know life is not always this. Sometimes I feel like I'm just floating through the day with no real importance. It's nice though not to have the responsibility and pressure of life's little dumbbells on my shoulders.

Let's start with a not so simple subject- Love. Everyone has at least felt this wonderful feeling once if not more in their life time. It seems to be one of the greatest unexplainable forces of nature.  It is simple yet complex and even though it is one of the hardest things to admit it just makes life worth living.

Once Upon a Love

Maestro Please!

Allow me to introduce myself:

My name is Aimée. I like to think of myself as a witty, intellectual person and a pretty face. I was born with a wild hair and a sassy mouth to back it up.

Lately, I have felt the need for adventure. Something new and exciting. Maybe a blog? Yeah sure a blog. A place created solely for myself. My thoughts and feelings put into words for the world read. I came to the conclusion after being out of school awhile that I haven't really done much of anything worth feeling accomplished about. Sure I have made advancements in life, but nothing that gives you that "I did it" feeling.

I am starting this project in hopes that I can discover more about myself. Answer questions such as who am I and what I really stand for. To discover things I really love and things that I just put up with.
This will be a place to clear my mind of thoughts that just won't seem to leave until spoken to someone.

Hopefully, my life will seem as interesting to you out there as it does to me.

Once Upon a Love....

"Love takes off masks that we fear we cannot live without and know we cannot live within."
-James Baldwin

When it comes to relationships in life it is said that being loved is what one truly wants and needs, but I must say that loving is the true joy.

We cook love into our souls and feed it to the world through words and actions. We live and die for this feeling every day. We make very heavily influenced decisions based solely on the hope that this feeling conquers any doubt growing with in our hearts. Just the thought of love inspires a whole new being in some, while in others the very act can destroy a person.

To feel the warmth of someones body against yours. The touch of finger tips cascading across skin. Having the smell of something so sweet burned in to your memory bank like the first time you realized you didn't need someone to teach you "how" anymore. Letting the taste of the purest kiss left upon your lips sink into your soul and the sounds of sweet nothings whispered into your ear fill you with such bliss that honestly you think nothing can be better than this moment.

That it-self is Love, steeling every bit of reason right out from under you. No one who's been in love can argue that it is not worth feeling like sunshine and then the rain comes and the feeling that all hope is lost.

Briefly put- Of all the human sentiments I would have to say that Love takes the cake.
